South African banknotes

Flag of South Africa

We have seen faces of famous figures on banknotes such as politicains, musicians and scientists but i ma sure most if not all of us have not seen banknotes with animals on it especially ones that are endangered and one that is totally with aimals and not a single human figure in sight.Even if there are humans on these banknotes, there would be dead ones since some of these notes portray wildlife in South Africa nad some are wild and fierce animals.Well here is the South African Rand.

(Location of South Africa )

All 5 denominations contain animals from Africa which are endangered and also one of South Africa's tourist attraction, many tourists from their own country have to go thousands of miles just to see these animals so banknotes are like a advertising tool to introduce your country.Previous issues did have a face of a man by the name of Jan van Riebeeck, the Dutch explorer who founded Cape Town in 1652.But has been changed to these notes

(Some of Africa's wildlife.Do you know all these animals?)

South Africa's new, post-apartheid notes represent the "Big 5" tourist attractions in South Africa - rhinoceros, elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard. The reverse side of the notes feature images which reflect South Africa's major industries - primary industry, mining, chemical industry, tourism and manufacturing.

Currently i am trying to obtain these notes but due to its scarcity, i am not able to get all the banknotes.
10 Rand(Rhinoceros)
20 Rand(Elephant)
50 Rand(Lion)
100 Rand(Buffalo)
200 Rand(Leopard)

"I wonder who is visiting South Africa this coming December?"
"Come visit South Africa, ban killing on endangered animals"

The Brown Thousand

1910 banknoteHere is another banknote, which has gained a nickname similar to the Grand Watermelon banknote previously. A few banknotes in the world has gained names for their high prices, the history it contains, however this note gained its name because of its colour.Yes, the colour of this banknote is brown in colour and it originated from Germany. The size of this bill is 18.5 cm x 11 cm and i am sure you can imagine that this banknote can hardly fit in any of your wallets.
Children playing with stacks of banknotes as toys are even more expensive than the things used to buy them during the inflation in Germany

These 1000 mark banknotes were issued on these dates
10. April 1896
1. July 1898
10. October 1903
26. July 1906
7. February 1908
10. September 1909
21. April 1910
Green seal banknote,(1910)
This note is one of the most common notes of the German Inflationary period and thus the year 1910 notes is the cheapest to buy among the other dates as stated above, notes before 1910 during WWI are more expensive. Red seals and green seals exist for the year 1910 note and has either 6 or 7 digit serial numbers. The latter were issued only from 1916, with inflationary tendencies on the up. These bills are the least valuable of the 1910 series.

20 mark gold(1890-1913)

The banknotes with the green seals were actually given out after World War I (1918-1923). Before the war the currency was convertible into Gold. The issue of the new banknotes should prevent that any of these were requested to be exchanged into gold.

In the middle of the banknote the German eagle is depicted. The Eagle (in German “Adler”) is a very old symbol for the German state. Originally the eagle was the symbol of the Roman emperor. Charles the Great took over the eagle as his symbol, when he became emperor around 800.

The eagle remained the symbol of the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation. During 1433 and 1806 the “Reichsadler” as symbol of the emperor had two heads. The eagle during these times was also used by many towns and principalities in their arms. The eagle is common in many cultures as a symbol for power that is given by god. Even in these days the eagle is a symbol in the arms of many nations - amongst them the United States and Germany.Atop the eagle the imperial crown is shown surrounded by a branch of oak and a branch of laurel – symbols of heroism and victory.

Beside the “Reichsadler” are pictured two females. The one on the left is a symbol for navigation. She holds an oar. The lady on the right side is a symbol for agriculture. The inflation in Germany is considered one of the most terrible times for the German people as many has suffered during the inflationary period, lets home this disaster will not happen to us in the future.
